Half-hour comedy pilot, May 2024
The ghosts of this show exist to explore the vast spectrum of trauma and how it affects us in the present. Each member of this ensemble cast processes to their past and their trauma differently. Therefore, each haunting will be specific to the character and their ghost. This school will begin disconnected and competitive–no one gives each other patience or wonder what else may have happened in their lives up until that point. With the protagonist’s arrival and the kinder treatment of ghosts, expelling them with catharsis and freedom rather than a quick-fix aggression, the student body becomes closer.
Ghosts will be the only paranormal element in the series. They will appear as ordinary people, not transparent or ghastly. They stand to help the audience understand why a character acts the way they do and give hope to their growth. In general, this is meant to be more of a sitcom than supernatural drama. In order to see these ghosts with the co-protagonist, Maggie, a scene may very clearly shift perspectives and show the audience all the ghosts others cannot see. Each character’s ghost affects how they interact with Maggie and the rest of the school. Depending on the character, Maggie has difficulty expelling ghosts when those being haunted will not admit there is anything wrong.
